Steps of Painting first stillife composition

First day of painting:
1. We put gesso on our canvas and used burnt sienna and linseed oil wash over gesso.
2. We discussed focal point.
a). light against dark
b). detail in one object in the composition
3. Margee demonstrated steps for sketching and symmetrical
position of objects in stillife composition.
4. We sketched our composition using burnt sienna oil paint

Next: 2nd day painting:
1. Mixed colors. mixing opposites make grey.

2. Discussed primary colors, the color wheel.

3. Margee demonstrated coloring in the objects in
composition. Using dark to light.

4. We painted our objects in our composition.

Next 3rd Day:

Painted dark in on silver pot. Using blue and orange to make gray.

Next 4th day:

Finished painting silver pot dark areas. Mixed blue and orange to make gray and added white to lighten. The used flat brush and added highlights to the pot by placing brush and dragging or placing strokes on pot. Put down base color on glass pitcher using same colors but lightening it up with white. To make the design we used the blue and gray color and splotched in the shapes of flowers and lines, but not to detailed.

Next day 5th:

Margee demonstrated on the dark and light shadows in the books and the little birdie in the nest. By mixing the dark colors of the greens and blues develops the shadows and allows the books to show detail in the covers of each side with only making one stroke. By mixing white and yellow ocher you can make one stroke where the pages are and it portrays pages with the dry brush effect. Mixing the burnt sienna and yellow ocher it gives the terracotta color and mixing blue darkens it and by applying the wide brush stroke on the dark areas of the birdie develops the detail and portrays the bird.

Day 6th:

I finished my birdie in the nest, worked on the orange cloth and added shadows in. Then beginning the flowers by the arm in the picture. Margee demonstrated today the painting of the orange cloth with the texture of white lines and fringe coming off the end. She also demonstrated how to paint the dark's in around the flower petals where it made the petals pop out and really look like flowers with the stems and leafs surrounding them.

Day 7

We painted and Took pictures of each other and gesso'd our other canvas. We will be getting ready to start our portraits.

Day 8

Margee demonstrated How to paint the clear vase with water in it. I also finished the back ground behind the vase and put in the dark's to complete the detail of shadow .

Day 9

Margee demonstrated how to paint the porcelain vase. By mixing white and yellow ocher together and painting the inside of the vase between the blue details give the vase a more smooth glass look.

Dream Big

When I started this I decided to use 2 mediums: Watercolor pencil and Acrylic paint. I enjoyed working on this one. It is 12" X 12" , I have prints for sale that are 11" x 11" for $35.
Reminds me of the little boys at the barn learning to rope their first steer. Thats why I named it Dream Big because if a child cant dream big we would have no professional ropers today.
